The Unsettling Story of a Woman’s Murder by Her Abusive Partner
Birchmore found out she was pregnant in December 2020 and was excited about the prospect of becoming a mother. However, Farwell allegedly became violent with her when she brought up the pregnancy and told her he wished she were dead. In January 2021, one of Birchmore’s friends contacted the police to report Farwell and Birchmore’s relationship and Farwell asked Birchmore for a spare key to her apartment. On February 1, 2021, Birchmore was last seen alive walking outside her apartment with a snow brush. Stoughton Police Chief Vows to Seek Justice in ‘Horrific Injustice’ as Former Boyfriend Charged with Murdering Local Woman
The police found Birchmore’s body in her apartment on February 4, 2021 and initially ruled her death a suicide. However, investigators discovered that her actions in the days leading up to and day of her death were inconsistent with someone choosing to die by suicide. The U.S. Attorney’s office alleges that Farwell lied to investigators about the last time he had sex with Birchmore and did not express any sadness or remorse about her death. If convicted, Farwell could be sentenced to life in prison or face the death penalty. The Stoughton Police Chief has called the alleged murder a “horrific injustice” and vowed to ensure that justice is served in Birchmore’s death.
