CHICAGO (TCN) — A 15-year-old was arrested in Iowa this week for reportedly fatally shooting an on-duty mail carrier over the summer and fleeing.
The Chicago Police Department announced Oct. 1 that U.S. Marshals apprehended the teen in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, following a monthslong investigation into the death of a 48-year-old postal worker who was shot and killed while delivering mail on the 12100 block of South Harvard Avenue. The suspect was extradited back to Chicago and arrested on a charge of first-degree murder.
According to the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, Olivia Redmond was working on July 19 when the teen allegedly got out of a stolen Dodge Durango, approached her, and shot her “multiple times at close range.” The suspect fled, and the car was located the next day.
Chicago Police arrived at the scene and transported Redmond to a local hospital, where she died from her injuries.
The U.S. Postal Inspection Service described Redmond as “a wife and mother and is remembered as a staple to the postal customers she served.”
