Democrats Go High Trolling Trump to Find Votes in Michigan

Democrats have relished trolling Donald Trump on the campaign trail for months, and they’re back at it again on Wednesday, the Daily Beast reports exclusively.

This time, the Democratic National Committee is flying a sky banner that reads “Trump is an anti-union scab! Vote Kamala!” above the Detroit Tigers’ playoff game.

It’s the latest in a series of visual digs the party has mastered, from billboards mocking the former president as a “chicken” for debate dodging to projecting “Project 2025 HQ” on Trump Tower.

Ahead of the former president’s scheduled appearance at the Detroit Economic Club on Thursday, this jab pokes at a central fight between the two candidates.

Trump and Kamala Harris are duking it out to position themselves as the candidate of working people, promising to scrap taxes on tips and support union workers. Most U.S. labor unions have endorsed Harris, but two major ones, the Teamsters and the International Association of Fire Fighters, have decided to stay out of the race.

Though Harris isn’t polling as well among union workers as previous Democratic nominees, she’s determined to win them over in a race that is coming down to the wire. Attacking Trump as a “scab” to highlight his opposition to paying overtime, including his own workers, has become par for the course.

The battle for union workers is particularly pronounced in Michigan, the hub of American car production, where Harris barely leads Trump. JD Vance stopped in Detroit on Tuesday, promising to invest in auto workers. Last week, Harris ripped Trump for the closure of a Michigan auto plant when he was in office.

“We will not be gaslighted,” Harris said at a rally in Flint, Michigan, where United Auto Workers President Shawn Fain preceded her. “We will ensure that the next generation of breakthroughs, from advanced batteries to electric vehicles are not only invented, but built right here in America by American union workers.”

Wednesday’s display over Comerica Park, when the Tigers take on the Cleveland Guardians in Game 3 of the American League Division Series, is a chance to drive home the message and ensure Election Day doesn’t go into extra innings.

“Detroit workers lived through the consequences of Trump’s catastrophic policies and have made a comeback under the Biden-Harris administration,” DNC regional press secretary Stephanie Justice said in a statement. “Meanwhile, Trump remains an anti-union scab who weakened the rights of workers, and he’ll push them to the bottom of his priority list once again to give handouts to his billionaire friends.”
